GETTING STARTED: Signing up with IAPLA.com

This process should actually be called "joining" rather than signing up. You will always remain the owner of your own music. IAPLA.com will never take ownership of your works for any reason. In a few very simple steps you can start uploading and publishing your music online.

To sign up (or rather join us): There are two initial agreements to agree to, before you can start uploading your music.

The first agreement is the Terms of Service agreement, in which you agree not to abuse any music available for download from anybody else. You will create an account with us, for which you will pick your own user id and password. Your user id will be displayed on our discussion board if you choose to make any posts there, and also in an email address, if you would like to have an email address with us.

The second agreement is the Artist Agreement, which explains your rights to the ownership of your content, our privacy policy and so on.

Note that:

All services are free.

You remain the owner of your music.

You have the right to remove your music at any time.

We may use graphics and other materials uploaded by you to promote both IAPLA.com and your music.

All the legal mumbo-jumbo is meant to protect both you and IAPLA.com

Rod Underhill, co-founder of the original mp3.com, has written all of the agreements for us, as he remains a crusader for the independent artist today.

STEP 1: READ TERMS OF SERVICE AGREEMENT

Click on the "SIGNUP" tab, and read the TERMS OF SERVICE:

STEP 2: SIGN UP

At the bottom of the screen, fill in the following:

Fields

"User": Choose a User ID.

"Password" and "Repeat Password" : Choose a password and repeat.

"Email": Your valid email address. A confirmation link will be emailed to this address.

"Name": Your name.

Acceptance Checkbox: check if you have read and understand the above agreement.

The "Signup Accepted" screen will be displayed, and an email will be sent to your user.

STEP 3: ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT`

An email will be sent, containing a massive link which will be required to activate the new account. An example if the email is as follows:

- If you are an artist who wishes to publish music online,
you have to log in to the admin area at https://www.iapla.com/admin.cgi and
accept the Artist Agreement, after which you then can:

1. Create a band
2. Upload your music, of which you are the owner or have
sufficient authority to publish. The first 10 songs are hosted for free.
You will remain the owner of your music and can remove any songs without notice at any time.

- You have accepted the Download Agreement, and you may now
download any music that is listed for free, for personal use.

Below is an example of the acivate screen. Click on the "Activate" button. Once activated, you can download music and progress to the artist agreement:

STEP 4: PREPARE YOUR MUSIC IN MP3 FORMAT

Recording and encoding your music in mp3 format.

Record your music onto your computer into .wav format.
Encode your music into .mp3 format at at least 128Kbps, to a maximum of 256Kbps.

STEP 5: READ AND ACCEPT THE ARTIST AGREEMENT

Once you have an IAPLA account, uploading and publishing music is a very simple process. The steps are as follows:

Sign in to the admin area
Once logged in, click on the "Artist Agreement" link, read and accept the "Artist Agreement":

Clicking on the "I Accept" button will lead to access to the band and songs areas:

STEP 6: CREATE A NEW BAND!

Click on the New Band link, fill in a desired band url, name, and fill in the text areas as accurate as possible. This text will be used in our powerful search engine. Click on the Update at the bottom of the screen to save the new band.

At the bottom of the screen, remember to click the "Update" button to save your new band information:

A message like "Insert New Band Addition Successful @ 00025" will be displayed, and you shall now see a link for your band under the "Artist Section":

STEP 7: UPLOAD MUSIC AND GRAPHICS

Click on your Band link. The "Band" menu is now displayed. Click on the "Upload A Song" link. This will take you to the main genres available in IAPLA. Pick a main genre for your song. The next screen will be subgenres of the main genre picked, some might have more subgenres. Use this screen until you have found the correct genre for your song:

When the final genre is selected, the mp3 upload page will be displayed. Fill in the name for the song, and as much relevant data as possible. All of the data in the text fields will be indexed. Select the song availability (Free download, for sale etc.). Select the directory where the mp3 song file is located on your PC, and a picture file of .jpg or .gif format, which will be resized to 70x70 pixels. Assign a price for the song, 0 for songs that you wish to provide for free download only. Select "Band/Artist Owned" for license if the song is your own original creation. Also, provide at least and mp3 file:

Click on the "Update" button. The song will be uploaded and saved in our database.

Wait untill the song gets approved. Once approved, the song will appear on your band page. Users with status of "trusted" do not have to wait - their songs will become available immediately.

Other links on the band menu can be used to update song information, mp3 file, graphic file, genre, info, to create licenses or to even delete the song.
